The ICW and Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina

Cool pictures but a sad story...

Our last view of Charleston, South Carolina - see you later Charleston!

Another day on the Atlantic

We sailed on the Atlantic from Charleston to South Port NC. It went really well, we had a tail wind and were making about 7knots average. From South Port we took the ICW north about 50 miles....Our luck had finally drawn thin. During the said 50 miles not only did we ground the boat over a dozen times, the full moon dictated the tide would be extremely high at all times. So high in fact, that at high tide, it was lower than at low tide.

Me up the mast taking off the wind gear so we can squeeze under 65ft bridges at  low tide... Lucky I have been so well behaved or Sandra might not have tied of my safety line properly!

Stop.

Think about it.

Doesn't the ICW look nice! - Looks can be deceiving!!

Local reasoning means that sentence might take you awhile to get your head around. Read it again. It did not make sense to us at the time, and it still doesn't now. It sure did create some frustration though.

From the back...

Follow this sequence. P.Pacer vs. 71FT power cables

This type of thing keeps Ash awake at night!

RULE NUMBER ONE ABOUT THE ICW;

DONT do it in a 50ft boat that draws 6ft and has a mast that is 69 feet off the water.

RULE NUMBER TWO

FOLLOW RULE NUMBER ONE.

P.Pacer Vs. 65Ft fixed bridge at low tide

"This type of thing keeps Ash awake at night!"

I'm not sure if it was scarier being up the mast or watching from the kayak

Don't think you could squeeze a cheese burger through that gap!

SOO CLOSE!

ahhhh GREAT SUCCESS!

....We turned around, back tracked 30 miles and are now at Wrightsville Beach awaiting a weather window so we can head straight to Chesapeake Bay, Virginia.

Next update from Chesapeake Bay.

Another ICW marina

Figure Eight Bridge

GO!

What a nice place for a birds nest!

This is where we are anchored as I write this entry. Spot the  rib and  P.Pacer
